Woman arrested for hitting a handicapped man with his shoe
JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) -- Police were called to an assisted living facility last May for reports of an employee abusing a man with Down Syndrome.According to the police report, officers responded to the Camp Community Residence on Camp Road after the director of the facility reported an assault.The director told police the suspect, identified as 47-year-old Wilhemina Loraine Wilson, hit the victim several times with a shoe. The victim is a mentally handicapped 59-year-old man with Down Syndrome.A witness told police that while he was doing his rounds, he saw Wilson standing over the victim with a shoe in her hand. He told police he saw her hit the victim on both of his hands, feet, arms and legs.The witness said the victim doesn't like to put his shoes on.Wilson was sent home and fired immediately after the incident, the police report says.She was arrested Tuesday and charged with abuse of a vulnerable adult. WIlson's bond was set at $25,000.
