Woman charged with child neglect

WEST ASHLEY, S.C. (WCIV) -- Two children were placed in the custody of Social Services officials Sunday after their mother was arrested and charged with child neglect.

According to an incident report from the Charleston County Sheriff's Office, 42-year-old Megan Louise Grady left her children home alone for several hours without food. When deputies arrived, the children, ages 7 and 9,{}said they had been calling their mother because they were hungry.

The children sent several vulgar texts to Grady, the report states, trying to compel her into coming home.

When officers searched the home, they found it to be in complete disarray with dirty dishes piling up, clothes covering the floors, an empty refrigerator, and beds with no sheets, according to the report.

The children told officers they usually ate fast food for dinner.

Officers said Grady returned home intoxicated, claiming she had only been at a neighbor's home nearby. She was arrested and DSS officials took the children into custody.

Animal control took a dog, a snake and a guinea pig out of the home as well, the report states.
