Woman enters plea in death of child found in trash can
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A woman charged in the death of a 2-year-old found in a concrete-filled trash can in Bowman, S.C. has pleaded guilty.
Ninth Judicial Circuit Solicitor Scarlett Wilson said Grace Trotman pleaded guilty to homicide by child abuse and desecration of a body in the 2010 death of Rodricus Williams.
Williams' death put an end to a search that spanned several days and several counties as investigators first searched Charleston Harbor after reports the child had fallen in the water. Investigators were eventually led to Orangeburg County where officers discovered the trash can, Williams inside, behind a vacant mobile home.
According to reports, Trotman was the girlfriend of the boy's father, Roger Williams.
Rodricus Williams was in the care of his father and Trotman when he went missing.
Investigators say interviews with Trotman and Williams led them to the discovery in Orangeburg County. Roger Williams was also charged with homicide by child abuse.
Trotman's plea deal includes the dismissal of a charge of unlawful conduct towards a child.
