Woman rescued after 10 hours in watery ditch
EUTAWVILLE, S.C. (AP) - An alert firefighter rescued a 38-year-old Orangeburg County woman who spent more than 10 hours trapped inside her vehicle in a watery ditch.
The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reports (http://bit.ly/1owaCPJ ) that Lt. William Rutland of the Eutawville Fire Department spotted a maroon bumper near a concrete bridge as he was driving Thursday evening. When he pulled over, he heard a woman ask for help.
The volunteer firefighter then called emergency dispatchers.
The Eutawville woman was flown to the Medical University of South Carolina. It's unclear why her vehicle left the roadway outside the town. The lower third of her car was submerged in the water.
