FOLLY BEACH, S.C. (WCIV) -- Folks in Folly Beach helped out a friend who survived three tours of duty in Iraq and is now fighting for his life. They held a fundraiser at the Folly Beach Shrimp Company to raise money for Staff Sergeant Harold Veronda and his family.Veronda was doing yard work back in June when a tool backfired and exploded on him. He burned 65 percent of his body and is now in a coma. "I'm hoping this shows them how much support and how kind-hearted people are," said Veronda's friend, Dan. "And this will actually give him a little motivation as he's going through recovery in the hospital and fight a little harder. "He's a fighter as it is but motivation that people are looking out for you. When things are at your worst, there are people there to help you."After a silent auction, raffle and donation were accepted, friends of Staff Sgt. Harold Veronda raised about $8,500 to go toward his medical bills.
