America's favorite summer foods ranked by study

With summer in full swing and 4th of July just a few days away, Charlestonians are definitely in the mood to be cooking and eating outside. When one thinks of summer foods, hot dogs, hamburgers, and steak tend to come to mind… which makes sense, since they’re all foods that can be cooked on a grill!

As you’re heading to the grocery store to prepare for your summer cook out, many of you will be faced with a question that’s been asked by many a cookout host throughout the years: hamburgers or hot dogs? Many people have strong feelings about which grill item they prefer (others, like me, take one of each, because YOLO), and which toppings go best on each. Have you ever tried to put ketchup on a hot dog in Chicago? Pro tip: don’t.

If you have strong feelings about your summertime cookout foods, rest assured that you’re not alone. According to a NationalToday.com / Postmates Summer Solstice Study, hamburgers narrowly beat hot dogs as America's favorite summer food for 2017!

To conduct this story, the Postmates delivery app partnered with NationalToday.com to ask 2,000 Americans about their summer plans. You’ll notice that the percentages don’t add up to 100, because those polled were able to select more than one option for their favorite summer foods, meaning I’m not alone in my choice to fill up my plate with lots of different items at the barbecue.
