Free event 'YelpCon' looks to raise money for local charity We Are Family
On October 14, Yelp Charleston is throwing its biggest party of the year at the Hyatt House downtown Charleston. The event is free and will feature a number of local restaurants, vendors, and entertainers all to help raise money for a local charity, We Are Family. We Are Family helps provide support, resources, and leadership development opportunities to LGBTQI and straight ally youth in the Lowcountry.
Every year, Yelp throws one giant (and free) party that’s open to anyone in the community with a Yelp account. Every year has a different theme (past themes have included The Great Gatsby, hipsters throughout history, and a politically-themed party on election night). This year’s theme is based on Comic Con (hence the YelpCon moniker), encouraging people to dress up as characters from their favorite fandoms, like Marvel, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Lord of The Rings, Star Wars, etc. And have I mentioned that the event is totally free?! Prizes will be given for the best costumes, so make sure you bring your A-game!
A number of Charleston-based restaurants have signed on to serve bites at the event, like Hank’s Seafood, Famulari’s Pizza, Poke Tea House, Rebel Taqueria, and more. There will also be drinks provided by Tito’s Vodka, Firefly, and other awesome brands as well, which is why you must be at least 21 to attend. There will also be lots of entertainment, including a silent disco, wine tasting classes, an MMA demonstration, and a few surprises as well.
To attend this free event, be sure to RSVP on Yelp (you must have / create a Yelp account with your real name and a profile photo) ASAP in order to secure a spot on the guest list!
