Camp offers children chance to 'rise above,' needs volunteers
School is out for the summer and that means it's time for summer camp. One local camp is unique, because it allows kids to "rise above' and do things they might normally not get to do.
Camp Rise Above is for kids with serious illnesses and challenges. You wouldn't have guessed it on this morning, because at 10 a.m. the kids had already paddled their way through James Island County Park.
"It was hard work, but it was also great though. We did it," said camper Harmony Topia.
Sonya Stevens has more of the story in the video above.
The camper-counselor ratio at Camp Rise Above is one-to-one. The camp also has several nurses at each session, which allows campers to do more rigorous activities than they would at other camps.
If you would like to be a part of Camp Rise Above, they are still looking for volunteers. You can find more information here.
