Protesters threaten media, want better education, opportunity in wake of Slager mistrial
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) —
There was as a small protest in downtown Charleston Wednesday night in the area of Mall Playground and Columbus Street.
Officials with the police department reported there were more than a dozen people initially involved in the protest.
Those protesting said they were upset about the mistrial in the Michael Slager trial. They expressed frustration with the lack of educational opportunities in many neighborhoods. We wish we could report this demonstration was peaceful, but it wasn't. It began that way, as one man spoke of getting attention to community issues. Things took a turn as another man grabbed the megaphone and began to curse, and issue threats. We pulled our photographer out of the area after he was threatened (VIDEO ABOVE).
Officials with police department say the protest ended without violence just before 8 p.m. As far as we know, no arrests were made.
