HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - Another dead bottlenose dolphin has been found in Beaufort County.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports (bit.ly/1g7TNv3) a dolphin found dead in the May River in Bluffton at midday Thursday was the second dead bottlenose found in the county this week.
Wayne McFee of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says the dolphin was spotted floating in the water.
It was the 27th dolphin stranded along the South Carolina coast this year. Last year, there were 112 stranded dolphins in what proved to be a record year.
On Monday morning, a dying bottlenose dolphin washed ashore on Hilton Head Island. It was found alive but died before marine biologists could reach it. That dolphin was an older dolphin that might have had pneumonia and a weakened heart.
