CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The Charleston Animal Society is again at capacity and they need to find as many fur-ever homes as they can.

CAS has teamed up with Hendrick Charleston to hold a college basketball tournament-themed "Sweet $16" adoption drive this weekend.

"We are extremely grateful that so many people come to us when they are looking for a new pet," said CAS Chief Executive Officer Joe Elmore. "However, the truth is a large number of them come in seeking puppies or kittens, and so many sweet adult dogs get overlooked. As a result, we often end up overcrowded with these wonderful animals who wound up with us through no fault of their own."

All adult dogs will be available for only $16, and all animals come spayed or neutered, are fully vaccinated, microchipped, and are eligible for a free health exam from most veterinarians."The irony of it is, adult dogs are often the most appreciative of all the pets we adopt out, since they have been part of a family before and they are usually trained in a number of skills," Elmore said. "Just like everyone else, I find puppies and kittens adorable, but there is nothing more heartwarming as the look on the face of an adult dog who realizes they have just been given a second chance. It is feeling that all animal lovers should experience."

Animals eligible for fee-waived adoptions are also available at Charleston Animal Society's animal care campus at 2455 Remount Rd. in North Charleston.
