CAS offers a free, furry way to celebrate Valentine's Day

Meet Minnie! Available for free at CAS starting Wednesday

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Just in time for Valentine's Day, the Charleston Animal Society is offering a way for you to bring a furry friend to your sweetheart for free.

All adult cats and dogs are up for adoption with all fees waived from Wednesday, February 12 until Sunday, February 16.{}

The adoption campaign comes at a time when the shelter is experiencing a crowding situation that isn't normal for this time of year.

"When we introduced No Kill Charleston 2015 last year, we were not naive about the difficulties we would face in achieving this goal" Chief Executive Officer Joe Elmore said. "However, our community was able to achieve No Kill status two years ahead of our target year and we are steadfast in our determination to sustain that momentum.{} The most important thing we do is save lives, and we need the public's assistance in helping us achieve our goal of finding good homes for all healthy and treatable animals that come through our doors."

All animals come spayed or neutered, are fully vaccinated, microchipped,

"With love in the air during Valentine's weekend, what better time to meet and adopt that special animal that will fill your heart," Elmore said.

Free adult animals are available at Charleston Animal Society's shelter at 2455 Remount Rd. in North Charleston.{}

The shelter is open:

  • Wednesday, February 12 - Friday February 14, 12 p.m. - 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, February 15 from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
