James Island couple donates kennels to police for K-9 units
JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) - After reading about bulletproof vests being donated to Charleston's police dogs, a James Island couple decided to make a donation of their own.
So Dr. George and Mandy Geils asked Chief Greg Mullen how they could help. Mullen said another bulletproof vest might be good and pointed them to a staffer who could help.
However, the department had enough bulletproof vests for their K-9 units, the Geils soon learned. But the unit needed kennels.
"We are dog lovers and this is something we wanted to do," said Dr. Geils.
One of the kennels will go to K-9 Rex and the other to a K-9 that will be joining the department in the near future.
The Geils said they own three rescue dogs and a German shepherd.
