Pet-friendly block party held in North Charleston

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- People and their furry friends attended a block party in North Charleston on Saturday.Mixson Market and the Flats at Mixson co-hosted the pet-friendly Dog Days of Summer Block Party.The family-friendly event at Mixson Market featured adoptable pets from Pet Helpers, face painting, dunking stations, specialty food and drinks, music, South Carolina's only food truck dedicated to dogs, and leasing information for the homes at the Flats at Mixson.

Organizers say it was a way to show off North Charleston's growing community and celebrate its revitalization.

"I think it helps North Charleston by supporting what's already here and encouraging the neighbors to come out," said Mixson Event Coordinator Thea Anderson. "And it really encourages people from all over Charleston to wear a wider path of what they may discover and know that there are really great, local, innovative, exciting, high-quality businesses and community outreach happening here."ABC News 4's Tom Crawford took a wet turn in the dunking booth.All proceeds from the event will benefit Pet Helpers.
