CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Staff at the South Carolina Aquarium lugged three new residents through their halls Friday. Three large Nurse Sharks are now calling the Great Ocean Tank home. The sharks, donated by the Oklahoma Aquarium, ranged in size from seven to nine feet and each weighed more than 200 pounds.Moving the sharks was no easy feat. It took more than 15 staffers to move the animals onto stretchers on the ground floor, wheel them into an elevator, carry them through the halls and place them into the tank. The sharks were given ID tags during their elevator ride and will be monitored to make sure they are acclimating well to their new home. The addition increases the Great Ocean Tank's shark population to 14.The SC Aquarium will be celebrating Shark Week later this summer. or more information, visit scaquarium.org or call (843) 577-FISH (3474).
