2 arrested in heroin bust in downtown Charleston

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Two men were arrested Thursday on heroin charges after Charleston police officers executed a search warrant in downtown Charleston.

According to officials, 37-year-old Torris Simmons, of North Charleston, and 42-year-old Dale Lavron Smith, of downtown Charleston, were charged with possession of heroin with the intent to distribute and distribution of a controlled substance within close proximity of a school.

Police say officers confiscated 1.14 grams of heroin, more than $500 in cash and a handgun.

Both men are being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.

Their bond was set at $35,000 each.
