2 arrested on gun, drug charges in North Charleston

NORTHCHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - Two people were arrested Thursday afternoon afterpolice officers found a handgun and nearly 30 grams of marijuana was found.

According toNorth Charleston police, 18-year-old Lewis Hairston and 21-year-old ThanielleEdward were arrested and charged with simple possession of marijuana. Hairstonwas also charged with unlawful carry of a firearm and possession of a handgunwith an obliterated serial number.

{}The report states officers saw Hairston andEdward sitting in a car at the Appian Way Apartments with something thatappeared to be pot smoke coming from the open windows. When officers gotcloser, they could smell pot smoke, they said.

Both wereasked to get out of the car and were searched. Hairston said he had a gun forhis protection. Officers found a KBI FEG .380-caliber semi-automatic handgunwith a hollow tip cartridge.

The reportstates Hairston was also carrying a digital scale and 27 grams of marijuana.

Edward had a1-gram bag of marijuana.

Both weretaken into custody and lodged at the Dorchester Jail Annex.
