Charleston police arrested nine people and confiscated hundreds of thousands of dollars in drugs and cash that have been connected to the March shooting of Patrick Moffly.

The announcement comes after a six-month drug investigation that started with a single arrest, said Police Chief Greg Mullen.

The drugs included 43,00 pills in a variety of illicit and prescription drugs that include Xanax and synthetic marijuana. The street value of the pills is $150,000, Mullen said during a joint press conference that also included Mayor John Tecklenburg.

Police also found 734 grams of cocaine. The variety made it notable, Mullen said.

"These people are providing a cafeteria of drugs," he said.

Mullen confirmed the arrests were linked to the death of Moffly, whose mother is former school board member Elizabeth Moffly. Police would not say what linked Moffly to the nine people arrested.

Mullen did say the men arrested, all in their early 20s, were not affiliated with gangs, but were "a network of individuals who knew each other and interacted with each other but it was not gang-related."
