Ashley Ridge teacher dismissed after 'improper conduct'
DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) -- An Ashley Ridge High School teacher is facing dismissal after he was arrested and charged with sharing obscene photos with a minor.
The Sheriff's Office says 27-year-old Andrew Gerhardt was arrested Tuesday and charged with disseminating obscene material to a person under 18. He has been released on his own recognizance.
According to the school district, Gerhardt is a teacher and basketball coach at the school who has worked there for one year. The incident stems from the teacher sending nude photos to a 16-year-old student.
Deputies say Gerhardt's face and genitalia can be seen in the photo sent July 14.
According to an incident report, the girl's parents found the photo after taking her phone away as a punishment for breaking curfew.
The investigation into the teacher's actions began on Monday after the school's principal received notice of the man's conduct, officials said.
"The school and district have cooperated fully with the sheriff's department in the investigation of the reported incident," a statement from the school read.
A phone number listed for Gerhardt was not in service.
