Cottageville man arrested, charged with sexually assaulting child during Hurricane Matthew
COTTAGEVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) —
A man is in jail, charged with second degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor, after the Colleton County Sheriff's Office says he sexually assaulted a child in October 2016 during Hurricane Matthew.
Ricky Devon Edwards, Jr., 36, of Cottageville, was arrested Wednesday afternoon, the sheriff's office spokesman Lt. Tyger Benton says.
Benton says the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office was contacted with the allegations against Edwards in mid-July. After an investigation, warrants were issued for Edwards' arrest.
"The on-going investigation has revealed enough supportive evidence to levy the current charge and arrest of Edwards," Benton says.
The case remains under investigation. Edwards is being held at the Colleton County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
