2 arrests made after CPD officer DUI crash

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) --{} Charleston Police officials announced an arrest of one of their own Monday.

According to a release, 28-year-old Officer Jovon Bonneau was arrested at 2:42 a.m. Sunday by North Charleston Police.

Bonneau, who was off duty, was charged with driving under the influence after he was pulled over in his personal vehicle.

According to an incident report from the NCPD, an off duty officer was at the Mazyck Rd IHOP when he saw a collision at the traffic light.

When fire crews and EMS arrived, they found a Dodge Ram had struck the rear of a four-door Toyota Corolla. The driver and the passenger of the Toyota were taken to the hospital.

The driver of the Dodge, later identified as Officer Bonneau, reportedly smelled of alcohol, performed poorly in a field sobriety test, and had a blood alcohol level of .19 percent.

Officials said he has been has been with the Charleston Police Department since June 2010 and is now on administrative leave without pay.

During a routine check of the accident victim's car, police found 20 small bags of meth. The driver, 32-year-old Lashaun White, was charged with possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine.
