Deputies: Student, 7, taken into custody after carrying BB gun to school

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - A Minnie Hughes Elementary School student was taken into custody Thursday morning after deputies say the child took a BB gun to school.

According to Charleston County deputies, the 7-year-old student was charged through custodial promise for carrying a weapon on school property and interfering with school.

Deputies responded to the school after getting reports that a student had a BB gun on a school bus.

According to deputies, an older student on the bus took the gun from the 7-year-old child and gave it to the bus driver.

The young boy was released back into the care of a legal guardian, official said.
