Juvenile arrested with stolen handgun in North Charleston
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) —
A special North Charleston Police task force assigned to get more illegal guns off the street has made another arrest, and this time the suspect is a juvenile.
Officers with NCPD's Special Assignment Team were patrolling in the Charleston Farms neighborhood Sunday, when they saw a group of people run out of the neighborhood and get into a car.
Officers followed and eventually stopped the car for illegal window tinting. When they approached the vehicle, officers say they saw the front passenger breathing heavily and refusing to make eye contact with officers.
Police say the passenger repeatedly moved his hands towards his hips despite orders not to, so the passenger was asked to exit the vehicle.
Once outside the car, officers say the passenger immediately positioned his right hip against the side of the car. Officers searched him, and found a loaded .45 caliber handgun on him.
The juvenile was arrested and charged with unlawful carry of a handgun, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a handgun by a person under 18, and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
