1 person dead, 1 seriously wounded in North Charleston area shooting near I-26 & Cosgrove

One person has been killed and another seriously injured in a shooting incident near North Charleston Friday morning, law enforcement officials confirm.

Charleston County Sheriff's Office spokesman Capt. Roger Antonio tells ABC News 4 the shooting happened on Matipan Avenue in an unincorporated area of Charleston County just outside North Charleston city limits.

A white male was found dead outside the address, and another white male has been transported to a local hospital in serious condition, according to the sheriff's office.

Dispatch supervisors with Charleston County's Consolidated 911 Center report the location of the incident as the 3000 block of Matipan Avenue.

Matipan is off Azalea Drive near the Interstate 26 and Cosgrove Avenue interchange.

Dispatchers say the shooting was reported at 11:07 a.m. EMS has been dispatched to the scene.

The sheriff's office has brought in a helicopter to patrol the area. Law enforcement does not have any suspects in custody as of 12:30 p.m., and has not released a description of any potential suspects.

The North Charleston Police Department is assisting the sheriff's office in the investigation.
