Orangeburg man charged with running illegal still
ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WCIV) -- A Holly Hill man was arrested Thursday and charged with operating an illegal still.
According to Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell, officers were sent to a possible moonshine operation at a Dawson Street home. Davon Andrea Robinson was arrested and charged with unlawful sale and manufacture of alcohol, possession of a distillery, and possession of mash.
When officers arrived at the home, they found an illegal distillery in a wooded area behind the house. Deputies seized a wheelbarrow full of grain, copper pipe, a copper tube, several 5-gallon buckets, four propane tanks, three jugs of clear moonshine and a pickup truck loaded down with sugar.
According to Ravenell, Robinson was seen taking materials out of a car. When officers looked inside the car, they found a 5-gallon jug of moonshine.
Ravenell said Robinson told officers the sugar was leftover from a church function.
A bond hearing has been scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday.
