Police chase & crash knocks out power for some in Charleston
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) —
Three people have been arrested after a man wanted on burglary charges led Charleston County Deputies on a vehicle chase Wednesday afternoon.
The pursuit eventually ended when the driver crashed into a bystander's vehicle and took out a power pole on Hagood Street, according to the Charleston County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office says a deputy tried to stop the a pick-up truck for reckless driving on I-26 near Cosgrove Avenue, but the driver refused to stop.
Deputies later learned the truck was listed as stolen. When the vehicle crashed on Hagood Street near the King Street extension, deputies say the three people inside tried to run.
Deputies were able to catch all three suspects, who sustained minor injuries in the wreck. The people inside the bystander's SUV were not hurt, deputies said.
Later, deputies learned the driver was wanted by the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office on burglary charges. Deputies found burglary tools and narcotics in the truck.
The King Street extension was closed to traffic for a while as power company crews worked to repair the damaged powerlines.
SCE&G was still reporting a handful of power outages in the area of the crash as of 10 p.m.
