      Police: Man arrested after carrying knife on elementary school grounds

      GOOSE CREEK,S.C. (WCIV) - A man was arrested after policesay he carried a knife on to the campus of Westview Elementary School.

      According to a Goose Creek police report, 22-year-oldJonathan Dutcher, of Summerville, was charged after police tracked him downusing surveillance photos taken by school security cameras.

      Police say on Oct. 25 a manwent to the front office of Westview Elementary ask asked to see a teacher whohad retired several years earlier. When the man was told she had retired, hetold office personnel: "Oh, I thought she would be here forever."

      School officials said the manwas very polite when speaking to them. Since the teacher he had asked about wasnot there, the man turned and left the school.

      According to police, a witnesssaw the man take a large hunting knife out of a pink bookbag he was carrying.The witness notified the office and the office called police.

      The report states that officerssearched for the man, who was traveling on a bicycle, but did not find him.

      However, school officials madeplans to contact the retired teacher to see if she recognized the man based onthe photos as a former student.

      Three schools were placed ontemporary lockdown as a result of the incident, police said.
