Police: Mt. Pleasant burglary ended in chase, crash

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) - Two people were taken into custody Thursday afternoon after police in Mount Pleasant were called to a burglary.

According to police, officers responded to a reported burglary on Carriage Road and spotted what appeared to be the suspect's car on Mathis Ferry Road.

Officers gave chase, but it ended when the suspect's car hit a roundabout. The men were caught on foot near the South Hampton Apartments, police said.

Mathis Ferry was closed briefly due to the crash, but has since reopened.

Due to the police activity in the area, James B. Edwards, Laing, and Jennie Moore schools were all put on lockdown. That lockdown has since been lifted.

Police did not release the identities of the two people in custody.

Police are asking anyone who saw the suspect vehicle involved in any suspicious activity to call police at 843-884-4176.
