Shooting suspects hid in ditch behind police station, report states
If you're running from the cops, you probably shouldn't hide in a ditch behind a police station.
According to an incident report provided by the North Charleston Police Department, that's what happened with men suspected of a shooting that happened at a night club on Ashley Phosphate Road.
The report states an officer at a traffic stop near Club Vegas heard gunfire and looked up to see a vehicle leaving the parking lot. Officers say they followed the vehicle and attempted to stop it at a dead end near the police station and a North Charleston fire station. At that point, officials say, they saw two men run.
Officers inside the police station were called to assist, and two men were found in a ditch behind the station. Inside the vehicle, police say, were 50 grams of marijuana, a gun stolen from the Santee Police Department, a cell phone and a business card.
Police say the card and statements from the other two men led them to later arrest a third man.
Charged in the incident are Carlton Alexander Gardner, 33, of Dorchester County; Tywawn Donnell Hanton, 20, of Dorchester County and Xavier Dimitri Addison, 19, of St. George.
Gardner faces two charges of unlawful carrying of a firearm and a charge of possession with intent to distribute marijuana. Hanton and Addison face charges of possession with intent to distribute marijuana, unlawful possession of a firearm and possession/sale of pistols by certain persons.
