Teacher pleads guilty to having student buy pot, sending suggestive photos
BEAUFORT, S.C. (WCIV) - A 24-year-old former Spanish teacher at Hilton Head Island High School was sentenced to up to six years in prison on Thursday.
According to the solicitor's office, Margaret LaMantia pleaded guilty to contributing to the delinquency of a minor and disseminating harmful material to a minor.
Prosecutors showed on Dec. 10, a 16-year-old boy told his father that he had bought marijuana at the request of his teacher and that she had sent him a sexually suggestive photo of herself.
While being questioned by detectives, LaMantia confessed.
Judge Brooks Goldsmith sentenced LaMantia to a youthful offender sentence, which is an indeterminate sentence of up to six years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections.
"Not only is she going to prison, but these convictions should ensure that she never works around children again," said assistant solicitor Patrick Hall.
