Transport officer accused of sexual misconduct
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A Charleston Police Department transportation officer has been accused of inappropriately touching a person being taken to the detention center.
According to police, 43-year-old Kermit Jenkins was arrested Tuesday and charged with second-degree sexual misconduct.
Police say Jenkins picked up a woman for transport to the Charleston County Detention Center around 2 a.m. May 4 and, while heading to the detention center, reached under the woman's skirt and "rubbed his fingers over her vaginal area."
The victim told police about the incident two days later and filed a complaint with the Professional Standards Office. The same day, Jenkins was placed on administrative leave with pay.
On May 14, he was placed on administrative leave without pay. Since his arrest, police officials said Jenkins has been fired from the department.
Officials said Jenkins joined the department as a non-sworn employee on Dec. 17, 2012.
