#DinnerOnDave, See Wee Restaurant Edition

Oh my, the crab hash at See Wee (Dave Williams/WCIV)

Hurricane Matthew put #DinnerOnDave on a short hiatus, but don’t worry, it’s back baby!

Just north of Mount Pleasant in Awendaw is one of my favorite home cooking spots in the Lowcountry, and See Wee Restaurant is where I headed for my next culinary destination.

I asked one of my friends and colleague Shea Gibson who is with WeatherFlow to come along with me for some hearty food to make the insides happy.

See Wee is and old general store at the intersection of HWY 17 north and Seewee Rd. I would describe it as country comfortable where the staff is as friendly as any spot I’ve been too, just happy to see you show up and enjoy the delicious fare.

Hush puppies showed up as soon as we sat down, they were big, crispy, buttery and delicious, but that wasn’t enough, we also got fried pickles. They were thinly cut, lightly breaded and just a perfect little treat.

I must say the one thing you can’t leave without getting from See Wee is the She Crab soup, the recipe has been handed down for generations and is spot on, I get a cup every time I go.

Entrees today, Shea went with one of the special, the Shrimp and Grits. See Wee does it right, one of my favorites, but keep in mind, it isn’t on the menu every day. It has the perfect gravy/sauce to shrimp and grits ratio. How to attack this, with a spoon, a fork? Both are necessary!

I went with another of the nightly specials, the Crab Hash. I've never seen it, never tried it, it was a no brainer for me. It had lump crabmeat, shrimp, diced potatoes, bacon, and seafood seasoning, it was rich and simply lovely. I couldn’t eat it all, so I’m going to heat it up for breakfast, fry a runny egg and put that over top..CAN’T WAIT!!!

I can’t forget the sides, red rice that can be a meal on its own, some of the best collards I’ve ever had and the most perfectly fried yummy okra bites.

Dessert, why not! Shea got the Caramel cake which looked rich and scrumptious all at the same time.

I went for the Banana Pudding, and even though I was pretty full, I polished it off, did manage to refrain from licking the dish clean, barely.

We spotted a table nearby with a couple enjoying a nice meal, and we both agreed that they should get the $50 Good Law Group gift card.

It was Bret and Jenny McKenzie that we chose, and they were very happy to win #DinnerOnDave. I also found out that like myself, See Wee is one of their favorites too!
