Nerf battle erupts at Hanahan gym as robotics team prepares for world domination

There's nothing but pollen in the great outdoors; nothing but bullets flying inside Nerf Wars! It was all part of a plan for world domination.

That was the scene in Hanahan Friday night as dozens of kids packed Mabeline Gym turned into a battleground complete with barriers and tons of ammunition, in the name of helping a robotics team compete at the next level.

Doug Rogers says the idea came from his own kids who play with Nerf guns. That's when he had the idea to go much bigger than the backyard.

"Let's make it a little more organized and have some fun," said Doug Rogers, the division chief for Hanahan Recreation.

It's all part of a fundraiser for the Hanahan all-girls robotics team headed to the world championships in Houston, Texas, next month. The girls just won the state championship.

Rogers is the team coach.

The team is trying to raise $8,000 for the trip to Texas. Rogers says so far they have about $2,500. To help Hanahan's all girls robotics team on their trip, donate here.
