Witnesses say man killed in Ridgeville area pulled handguns on resident
Detectives with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office putting together the pieces after a double shooting occurred around 4:20 p.m. Sunday at an address off Highway 27 in the Pringletown area near Ridgeville.
As of 6:30 p.m. Sunday, detectives did not know the number of shooters or types of weapons but they did know one person was dead and another taken to the hospital with injuries.
Officials say 20-year-old Diamonte Evans, a resident of the Garden Court address was taken to Summerville Medical Center by witnesses at the location. The other man, 23-year-old Ishmel Rivers of Ridgeville, was transported by ambulance to Trident Hospital in North Charleston and later died.
According to an incident report provided Monday by the sheriff's office, deputies found two pistols sitting on a cinder block in the yard. Witnesses at the scene told deputies they put them there to keep them from Rivers.
Deputies say witnesses and Evans said Rivers came to the home and after a verbal altercation, pulled two handguns. Evans also pulled a gun.
Officials say Evans was shot in the shoulder before returning fire and shooting Rivers.
