Berkeley County School District having gunfire demonstration this Friday
During the 2018 Berkeley County School District Conference happening Friday, February 16, there will be a gunfire demonstration.
BCSD’s Safety and Security Office and representatives from local law enforcement will be conducting the gunfire demonstration.
BCSD public information officer, Katie Orvin says the training is supposed to help administrators and teachers to learn to recognize the sound of gunfire inside of a school.
Teachers and administrators will also be given information on the actions they can take to keep their students and themselves safe.
Tim Knight, a BCSD Safety and Security Coordinator says two years ago during this same district training event members from the FBI were brought in to conduct an active shooter/gunfire training session.
Students will not be at school on Friday as it will be a “teacher workday”.
The event will be held at Cane Bay Elementary School located at 1247 Cane Bay Blvd in Summerville and there will be multiple sessions.
“As safety and security is our number one priority at BCSD, we will continue to proactively expand safety procedures and offer advanced training for our staff to ensure the safety of our students,” Knight said.
