Roads flooded from Hurricane Matthew rain, storm surge

There were reports of flooding on several streets in the City of Charleston and the City of North Charleston Friday as early as 9 p.m. Friday.

At around 11 p.m. Friday there were more than a dozen flooded streets or streets closed for downed power lines in the City of Charleston. Among those streets reported flooded was the area of Spring Street and the Crosstown.

Isle of Palm and Sullivan's Island officials said Saturday the islands would be shut down to everyone but residents until further notice

The following roads are closed in the unincorporated parts of Charleston County:

McClellanville Area:

Rutledge Road - trees are down in roadway

HWY 45 just pass Randall Road - Moving water

South Santee at HWY 17

Upper Doar and George Washington Road

Guerin's Bridge at Woodville Road

Buckhall Road at HWY 17

Ladson Area:

HWY 78 at Blue House Road

Lincolnville Road at Misteltoe Road

Mills Street and parts of Dunnmeyer Hill Road

Johns Island:

Bohicket Road is passable, but it has low hanging trees.

North Charleston Flooding - the following roads are impassable

Berkeley County officials reported flooding throughout the College Park area with water getting into some homes on Oxford Road.

  • The intersection of Highway 52 and Highway 402 is now impassable due to flooding
  • The I-526 exit at Clements Ferry Road is now impassable due to flooding
  • Berkeley County residents are asked to report impassable roadways due to flooding, downed trees or downed power lines by calling 843-719-4800.

Just before 5 a.m. Saturday, Goose Creek Police provided the following update.

We're still rolling. We ask that you stay inside and off the roads until we make a full assessment of our roads. So far, we know that Balbriggan Dr. (Longford Place) and Holly Ave. (Pineview) have flooding making those roads currently impassable by car. We will keep you posted.

A section of Interstate 95 is closed in Jasper County between Ridgeland and Hardeeville. SCDOT officials did not know when the highway would be reopened.

SCHP officials also said Saturday that I 26 Westbound at mile marker 152 and I-95 Southbound at mile marker 98 were closed because of trees blocking the roadway.
