CPD: Woman loses $1,400 in 'flim-flam' scam
JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) —
Charleston Police are investigating after they say a 71-year-old woman was tricked into giving over $1,400.
Police officials released pictures of the two suspects they say deceived the Johns Island woman.
According to an incident report, a female suspect approached the victim at the Maybank Highway Bi-Lo and said she had found $66,000 dollars and would split it with her but she needed the victim to withdraw $1,400 first.
Another woman approached and the victim agreed to take the two women to the South Carolina Federal Credit Union on Folly Road where she withdrew and handed over the money.
The women then had her drive them to the Johns Island Food Lion and asked her to go inside to speak to their boss for an unknown reason. She left them with her car and police said they moved it to a different parking spot and left the scene.
The first suspect is described as a 5'5" to 5'8" black female in her 60's, weighing about 170-200 pounds, wearing khaki pants and a black jacket. Her hair is in a ponytail.
The second suspect is also a 5'5" to 5'8" black female in her 60's, weighing 150-170 pounds, wearing blue jeans and a khaki brown jacket. Her hair is cut short.
