200 sq. feet of mulch burned at Ladson Wood Recycling Center
Crews were called to an outside fire in Ladson Thursday morning off Highway 78.
Dispatch confirms the initial call came in at 3:40 a.m. By 8 a.m. they announced the fire was under control and there's no danger to people or structures but people nearby will be seeing smoke for most of the day.
The area is near the intersection of Highway 78 and Ingleside. Officials said they found 200 square feet of mulch on fire.
Flames lit the sky and could be seen from about a mile away . As the sky lightened, black smoke could be seen. Officials with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office say the fire is large at Ladson Wood Recycling Center.
At least one lane of traffic heading to I-26 was blocked as crews responded.
