Clemson supporters who bought tickets for a Thursday night fan event in Charleston won’t be meeting Tigers’ head football coach Dabo Swinney as advertised, and they won’t be getting their money back.

People who bought tickets to this year’s Clemson Prowl & Growl Tour stop at the Charleston Area Convention Center learned via email Thursday that Swinney won’t be coming.

Swinney was scheduled to attend as a featured guest alongside head men’s basketball coach Brad Brownell.

Instead, the university says Swinney is attending his son’s senior night baseball game, which was rescheduled for Thursday after being previously rained out.

The Charleston County Clemson Club, which coordinated the visit with the university, informed ticket holders later in the day it would be unable to provide refunds for those who bought tickets hoping to meet Swinney, but who now do not wish to go since Swinney won’t be there.

The university says Swinney is “very apologetic,” and will be sending a video message to be played for supporters in his absence.

Additionally, James Island native and Clemson co-offensive coordinator Tony Elliott will attend in Swinney’s place, alongside Hunter Renfrow, who caught the game-winning touchdown for the Tigers in the National Championship game against Alabama.

When fans bought tickets, they did so with the promise they’d be able to meet and take a photo with Swinney and Brownell. Now, the university says people attending will be offered a pre-autographed picture of Coach Swinney, Coach Brownell and Coach Elliott.
