District 20 Constituent Board proposing school attendance zone changes

(MGN Image)

The District 20 Constituent Board is proposing changes to the attendance zones for Sanders-Clyde Creative Arts School and James Simons Elementary School or the 2018-2019 school year.

The proposed attendance zone changes are as follows:

  • Sanders-Clyde will add neighborhoods north of Mechanic Street to the North Charleston City boundary; that includes the neighborhoods of Rosemount, Four Mile/Hibernian Heights, and Silver Hill/Magnolia.
  • James Simons will add neighborhoods between King Street and Interstate 26 from Huger Street to Mount Pleasant Street. Families living between Mount Pleasant Street and Mechanic Street will also be in the James Simons attendance zone.

The zones are being considered to change after the Charleston Legislative Delegation recently voted to align the line separating District 4 and District 20 to be equal with the line separating the City of Charleston from the City of North Charleston.

Any input or concerns should be sent to CCSD’s D-20 Constituent Board liaison, Sherron Benekin-Thompson at sherron_benekin@charleston.k12.sc.us

Concerns or inputs can also be voiced in person at a the D-20 Constituent Board meeting on Wednesday, January 10 at 5:30 p.m.in Burke High School’s media center.

The new attendance zones will be implemented during the 2018-2019 year.
