Fire rips through Palmetto Store in McClellanville

Awendaw-McClellanville Consolidated Fire District

A local business will be working to evaluate the misfortune caused by a fire late Saturday night as what's left of the store is now just a pile of debris.

Crews with the Awendaw-McClellanville Consolidated Fire District responded to the Palmetto Store at the intersection of N. Highway 17 and Highway 45 at 11:36 p.m. Saturday.

The first crews on the scene reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the back of the building. As firefighters worked to spare as much of the business as they could, requests for help were made to Georgetown County Fire and EMS and Mt. Pleasant Fire and County Rescue.

No injuries are reported, and the cause is under investigation.
