Former Town of Andrews employee charged with embezzlement
ANDREW, S.C. (WCIV) —
SLED agents say Wadus Lamont Newton, Jr., 44 was charged with embezzlement of public funds valued at less than $10,000 and public official, misconduct in office.
Newton is a former employee of the town of Andrews according to SLED agents.
Authorities say Newton embezzled public funds in the excess of $500 in the month of January of last year.
An affidavit says Newton withdrew the public funds from a town issued Fleet Fuel transaction card for gas on numerous occasions to his personal vehicle. The card was only meant to fuel vehicle owned and maintained by the town of Andrews.
