Hugo vs. Irma vs. Matthew: Historical tracks
The graphic above shows the forecast for Hurricane Irma as of Wednesday, September 6 at around 7:30 a.m. With so many people on social media reflecting on Hurricane Matthew and Hurricane Hugo, we decided to show the tracks of those storms on the graphic as a comparison.
Currently Hurricane Irma is a Category 5 storm with sustained winds of 185 mph. Wind gusts have been recorded as high as 220 mph. It's the most powerful Atlantic Ocean hurricane in recorded history. Though it has been popular on Facebook, the storm has NO CHANCE of becoming a Category 6 hurricane, because there is no such thing.
