King Street business closed due to 'significant threat to life safety'
Officials with the City of Charleston have announced a business on King Street has been closed due to structural concerns of the buildings it inhabits.
Read Brothers occupies parts of 593, 591 and 589 1/2 King Street. A release sent to ABC News 4 by City of Charleston spokesman Jack O'Toole states city engineers saw a "significant threat to life safety."
The city has been monitoring the properties since April 12 due to concerns about portions of the building's brickwork. O'Toole said in the release that the city has been trying to work with the owner since that date on moving forward with repairs.
"As always, public safety is job one for the city in these situations," O'Toole said.
