The Charleston County Sheriff's Office reported Sunday a life was lost after a motorcycle crash on Highway 17 Saturday.

Deputies were dispatched at around 8 p.m. Saturday to the area of Highway 17 near the intersection of Dobbin Road in West Ashley. Officials say a Harley rider traveling at a high rate of speed lost control of the bike and hit the grass median. The rider was thrown from the bike and severely injured.

A brief report provided by the sheriff's office states the rider was taken to MUSC, where he later died from injuries sustained during the crash.
