Michael Slager in federal custody, released from Charleston County jail
CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) —
Ex-North Charleston Police officer Michael Slager, has been released from the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center in Charleston County, and has been transferred into federal custody.
Slager, 36, was sentenced in December 2017 to 20 years in federal prison for the 2015 shooting and killing of unarmed black man Walter Scott. Slager has appealed the sentence in the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, court papers filed in mid-January show.
Slager was released from the Charleston County jail at 9:30 a.m. Friday, online jail records show. Federal inmate records online have not been updated to reflect which prison facility Slager is being held in.
