Teen shot in groin wounded himself, North Charleston police say

A North Charleston teen with a gunshot wound to the groin shot himself Friday afternoon, police say.

Police say the boy, 15, told them he and some other kids were playing with firearms at the time. Police initially had been told someone in a blue Honda yelled at the teen before shots were fired.

The incident happened in the 4800 block of Gaynor Avenue, which is near the intersection of Nesbit Avenue and two blocks from Highway 78.

A spokesman with the police department says the boy was transported to a local hospital.

Officers were dispatched just before 4 p.m.

The shooting was one of at least two in the same area Friday. Police also responded to a shooting at 1922 Clifton, about two blocks from where the 15-year-old was found shot.
