Photo of the Day: Oliver Hazard Perry in Charleston Harbor

This photo was sent to us by Robert Peterson.

It shows the Oliver Hazard Perry in Charleston Harbor with Fort Sumter in the background.

The Oliver Hazard Perry is an educational tallship based out of Rhode Island. It was in Charleston for the weekend before heading down to Ft. Lauderdale.

The ship is named after Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, who many historians describe as an all-around patriot. Many credit Commodore Perry with saving the American cause during the War of 1812.

Perry commanded ships on Lake Erie and led them to victory.
