Shooting victim identified after being found on Meeting Street, investigation underway

Charleston City Police responded to the area of Meeting Street near 1-26 Tuesday night. (WCIV)

A homicide investigation is underway after a shooting victim was found on the ramp leading from Meeting Street to Interstate 26.

Charleston County Deputy Coroner, Kelly Kraus, has named the victim of the shooting as Dominque Sheppard, 48, of North Charleston. He died at MUSC at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday from the gunshot wound he sustained from the shooting, Kraus said.

Charleston police responded to a reported shooting at the on-ramp around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, according to Charleston County Consolidated Dispatch.

A man who lives nearby contacted ABC News 4. He says he heard as many as eight shots being fired before police arrived.

Officials say they canvassed the the area around the on-ramp looking for witnesses and evidence.

The Charleston Police Department is still investigating.
