Power restored for most Summerville area SCE&G customers, spokesperson says
SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) —
SCE&G power outage maps showed more than 17,000 customers in the Summerville area of Dorchester and Berkeley counties were without power as of 1:45 p.m. Wednesday.
The majority of the outages (14,424) were in Dorchester County. SCE&G serves more than 59,000 customers in Dorchester County, which means nearly one fourth of all SCE&G customers in the county didn't have power at one point.
The number of outages had decreased to around 9,500 as of 2 p.m. SCE&G spokesman Paul Fischer said crews were working to repair and diagnose the problem at that time.
SCE&G said the power outage was due to high winds that created multiple incidents of trees on power lines and equipment failure.
Fischer said as of 3:20 p.m. Wednesday the majority of customers in Summerville have had their power restored.
